52. So Late In The Day | Claire Keegan
A big WELCOME all new subscribers, it’s so good to have to here. If you’ve found your way over by some miracle (someone forwarding this to you!) but are not yet subscribed, here, let me help you with that:
Friends,
The latest Claire Keegan book was my first pre-order in ages and I completely forgot she was coming! If you’re new to Claire’s work I recommend this one, and this one to introduce yourself.
Claire is an Irish writer, known for her short stories and the well-deserved recipient of many writing awards. I ironically read my first of her books on a flight to Cork last year (Small Things Like These) and it absolutely broke me. I think I sobbed on and off for the entire flight.
This latest novel is small (47 pages! you’ll finish it in a single bath). It’s a short story about Cathal and Sabine, a woman Cathal would have spent his life with, had he acted differently. The book makes you wonder if a lack of generosity might ruin what could be between men and women.

Just finished this book of short stories by Jenny Diski : Why Didn’t You Just Do What You Were Told? (RIP 2016) Each chapter is its own story which was perfect for reading before bed in the bath! I loved her writing style so I’ve ordered a few more.
Speaking of, a new Sheila Heti book is on her way with this magnificent cover designed by the super talented Na Kim.
