“Humans… For the most part you are dull and blundering. But occasionally you can be remarkably bright creatures.”
Fans of The Octopus Teacher, I have a book recommendation for you!
When 70 year old Tova Sullivan’s husband passed away, she started working at the Sowell Bay Aquarium as a cleaner. Here she meets Marcellus, a giant Pacific Octopus1, living in a tank at the aquarium. With a reputation of being unfriendly to his human captors, Marcellus takes a liking to Tova and she to him.
Tova’s son, Erik, mysteriously disappeared on a boat over 30 years ago, and Marcellus seems to know what happened to him. This is a warm and tender story about their unlikely friendship — a must read for animal lovers.
“My neurons number half a billion, and they are distributed among my eight arms. On occasion, I have wondered whether I might have more intelligence in a single tentacle than a human does in its entire skull.”
